Given an allergy to red dye in the cast, I had to develop my own natural-dye blood recipe that did not stain, kept for weeks, and was still visible from the audience.
I went through multiple prototypes in regards to the blood mechanism, including pipettes on the blade, however in the end I used small heat-sealed bags that the actors squeezed at their throat.
