King Lear
In addition to being the Scenic Designer, I was also the Props Supervisor- assisted by Ares Smith. Our main challenge was to craft props that existed in the world of the show: somewhere between Gothic and post-apocalyptic. Letters were wax-sealed but burnt, swords were medieval but tarnished, and the Fool's staff was sculpted to look like Lear, but also held shattered pieces of the large rose window. I also worked closely with the fight choreographer to make the weapons uniquely brutal for the second act- Edgar and Edmund ripped their weapons off of the rebar debris in the set, and when they lost their blades, used shattered glass as daggers.
